Hawaiian massage — known as Lomi Lomi in its traditional form — is one of the most sacred healing arts of the Hawaiian people. Unlike conventional massage that works muscle by muscle, Hawaiian massage uses long, flowing strokes that move through the entire body in one continuous motion, working on the physical, emotional and energetic layers simultaneously.

The word Lomi Lomi means "to knead, to weave, to work inward and outward." In practice, it feels like waves moving through the body — releasing tension held not just in muscle, but in memory, in emotion, in the parts of you that have been bracing for a very long time.

What is the difference between Hawaiian massage and Lomi Lomi?
They are the same thing. Lomi Lomi is the traditional Hawaiian name for Hawaiian massage. Most people in Australia search for "Hawaiian massage" while the practice itself is called Lomi Lomi by practitioners. At Remembrance Healing, the Heartworks Lomi Lomi method is used — a lineage-based approach that honours the full traditional practice, working the whole body in long, flowing sequences rather than isolated areas.
How is Hawaiian massage different from a regular massage?
Conventional massage tends to work one area at a time. Hawaiian massage uses long, continuous strokes that flow through the entire body — often using the forearms as well as hands — creating a sense of waves moving through you. It works on physical, emotional and energetic levels simultaneously, which is why people often experience emotional releases during a session.

How should I prepare for my Hawaiian massage?
Arrive well hydrated and avoid eating a heavy meal in the two hours before your session. Wear comfortable clothing you can easily change out of. In the traditional Heartworks Lomi Lomi method, the body is worked unclothed beneath a drape so the long strokes can flow freely — you are always covered except for the area being worked. You are welcome to keep on underwear you are comfortable getting a little oil on. You don't need to prepare anything else — just arrive and allow yourself to receive.
What session should I book for my first Hawaiian massage?
The Soft Return (90 minutes) is the most popular first session. It gives enough time for the full Hawaiian massage experience without feeling overwhelming, and includes the crystal sound bowl healing. If you're short on time, the Realignment (60 minutes) is a beautiful introduction.
What is your cancellation policy?
A 50% deposit is required at the time of booking to hold your session. If you need to reschedule, please give at least 24 hours notice and we will move your booking at no extra cost.
